Southern Methodist University’s
Masters
Degree in mediation requires a thorough education in law
including family law, business law, employment law, contract law,
finance and property law, etc. However, also required are
hundreds of hours of
training in the psychology of conflict, mediation technique,
construction of plausible options, and a host of conflict resolution
tools that recognize that mediation involves more than legal
issues—it is also about
people who come to the process with a host of positions, fears,
questions, and anxiety, all of which can impede settlement.
Rather than the common “shuttle mediation” style which
involves simply running offers back and forth between rooms, we employ the
latest and most progressive mediation styles including evaluative,
transformative, and facilitative. Our settlement rate hovers in the 90%
range.
Our valued partners in the process are the competent
attorneys who represent their clients’ legal interests well, giving the
parties the confidence necessary to move toward settlement.
